SASTM
Sound Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization, or SASTM, is a patented soft-tissue mobilization technique designed to treat acute and chronic soft tissue conditions and injuries.
The provider uses specially designed instruments to break up and release scar tissue and myofascial adhesions that prevent fluid movement of muscles, tendons, ligaments and surrounding tissue. When someone says they feel tight, or have pain with movement, they are experiencing the binding effect of scar tissue.
SASTM introduces controlled microtrauma to affected soft tissue structures causing the stimulation of a local inflammatory response. Microtrauma initiates reabsorption of inappropriate fibrosis or excessive scar tissue and facilitates a cascade of healing activities resulting in remodeling of affected soft tissue structures.
Adhesions within the soft tissue which may have developed as a result of surgery, immobilization, repeated strain or other mechanisms, are broken down allowing full functional restoration to occur.
Certain soft-tissue lesions, depending on location and tissues involved, can be more effectively managed with instrument assisted soft-tissue techniques.
